Fairy Tales, Fiction and Fallacies: “Natural” nail polish

Let’s talk. Y’all are some of my favorite people, and I don’t want you to be duped. I’m excited that so many of you are taking an active role in your health and asking the tough questions. I’m happy to answer any of them, and if I don’t know something, I’ll find out. There’s one thing that keeps coming up, though, and I’d like to set the record straight: Natural nail polish and natural nail salons are not real things. I know you’re thinking, “Wait, Melissa. Aren’t you a natural nail salon?” Yes! But in the true sense, because I do not work on artificial nails. These new trends are, in my opinion, capitalizing on people who don’t quite know the right questions to ask.

There is no such thing as natural nail polish. Well … maybe juices and berries? All nail polishes have some kind of synthetic chemical that is harmful if it is absorbed into your bloodstream and remains there. The likelihood of nail polish being absorbed into your bloodstream through your dead nail, however, is extremely low. The real culprit of toxic absorption is what we put directly onto our skin, which is why the oils and scrubs I use are handmade and organic. Remember, I’ve always got your back!
